Antioxidants are vitamins and enzymes that help repair and prevent damage to the cells and tissues. Antioxidants help to control how fast you age. They do this by slowing down the effect of free radicals which start oxidation (oxidation causes cell damage). To prevent free radical damage the body needs antioxidants as these molecules interact with free radicals and stop the chain reaction before damage occurs. The body can produce some antioxidants and but these numbers start to decline as you get older.
